Dementia

As we get older, we can notice problems with our memory. Stress, tiredness, anxiety, depression, medication side effects and some physical illnesses can all contribute to memory problems whilst at the same time, some people can simply be absent minded.

Memory problems are common with ageing. Sometimes, however, forgetfulness can be an early sign of dementia.

Dementia is a group of symptoms caused by damage to the brain, and can be caused by a number of different medical conditions including Alzheimer’s disease. Symptoms include loss of memory, mood changes and confusion.

Help is available for people with dementia and there are treatments which can sometimes lesson the symptoms. It is therefore beneficial to get professional advice as early as possible.

If you are concerned about your memory, you should have a discussion with your GP who will address you concerns or arrange for any further action that may be required.
